2009 Xstar Stock JL Stereo
The star has 2 JL amps, 2 MC tower speakers and the usual 6 cabin speakers and sub. I turned the volume up to '33' (full blast) and the it was not loud at all. Turning the volume donw to half, I could barly here anything. This is inside the maint shop. When the radio was playing full blast, all speakers were working and the sound was very clear and had great fidelity. My question is it possible the amps may be turn way down? Or is there something else I sould look at. At this volume, there would be no way of hearing the stereo over the wind/water at full blast.

look at amps. they are probably turned down. small flat head screw driver dial is white.

Check to see if the amps are actually powered on. You may have a breaker tripped or a ground wire disconnected. If it played correctly before it's highly unlikely the amps magically turned themselves down. More likely they not connected correctly or the circuit has be tripped.

tuning issue - stock stereo is plenty loud enough (in the boat, anyway)
one of my mods this winter is going to be to power the sub separately from the 6 channel amp thats in there - so i'll be giving more power to the sub and 4 of the interior speakers by putting them on their own channels

installing additional amp - the stock JL 2 channel that used to power my tower speakers is pretty closely matched to the sub (bridged, anyway)
next season i'll be running: JL MHD600/6 to all interior speakers on their own channel Wetsounds sinister 2 in parallel to 4x rev 8's on the tower JL M250/2 bridged to the sub.
