Looking for an affordable spare tire solution for low-profile trailer?

I was wondering if anyone figured-out an affordable alternative to use as a spare tire on the low-profile trailer, specifically a 2008 40th Anniv 197 dual axle trailer with the KMC Badlands.

I know MC had a special offset on the wheels and that they are no longer making them and I did check with MC to see if they had any remaining, which they do, however the price tag is roughly $800 (before tax and shipping). That is a bit steep for something that will just hang on my trailer 99% of the time, granted that 1% when you actually need it, well.....

So, has anyone come-up with a tire and wheel combo that will work in case of emergency. I am trailering more these days and so my odds increase of having an issue. I plan to put the tire on the trailer spare mount and cover it, so it does not have match.

Thanks in advance.

If you know what the bolt pattern, diameter, width, and offset is, just search any old wheel with those specs and it will work. Discounttiredirect and tirerack both have a large selection of wheels for fairly decent prices.

Curious, what is the special offset? The torsion axles will allow for some variance in the overall tire diameter. If the tire size on your 18" wheels is 255/45/18, you can run the standard 14" trailer tire size ST205/75R14 as a spare. Treat it like you would a donut and replace asap.

I am willing to look into this. Bolt pattern will be 6x5.5. I would need wheel width and backspace.

From another thread... hope this helps...the 2008 trailers are KMC Badlands (XD 779) 18X9, with a +18 offset. In 2009, MC switched to a +8 offset and KMC stopped producing the +18 version, and the MC version the center bore is larger to fit over the oil bath hub.

Summitracing has a 18x9 with the +18 offset and the center bore is 106.25 mm you would need to measure the existing bore to see if it matches.

We have the KMC Badlands wheel (chrome plated) with +18mm offset and 72.6mm hub bore. We can offer a Nitto N555 255/45R18 103W or Nexen N3000 255/45ZR18 103W tire with the wheel for the same price. The price of this wheel with tire is significantly less than $800. You can check the price or order by contacting sales at info@boatmatetrailers.com. MC & BoatMate used different brands of axles in 2008 so please confirm that 72.6mm hub bore is adequate for your application.
