Thumbs up Added Polk DB 6.5" and 5.25" speakers to my 1987 PS 190

My PS 190 only came with 2 speakers, both stuffed under the observer's seat. They were terrible sounding. Actually, someone had tried to jam a 6" x 9" speaker behind this 5-inch hole.

Based on searches on TT, I found that Polks would be an affordable upgrade. I got 6.5" (Polk DB651) for the back of the boat and 5.25" (Polk DB 525) for the observer's seat.

They look good, and sound better. Thanks for the recommendations TT! Now I'm waiting for my amp to arrive so I can really power these.

You'll love how those sound with an amp. I just put the same speakers in my 83... they're VERY loud, and clear.

How much power are you giving them?

Hey! Thanks for recommending those 5.25" for under the observer's seat... they fit perfectly there!

I've got a 4 x 80 watt amp coming. I think it'll be enough for these four? The next problem is mounting it. I noticed that you screwed your amp down to the floor... that's wood under the partition between the driver's & observer's seat?

looks good! Mine only has 2 speakers in the back and I plan to put 2 up front. I like the idea of putting both under the observer seat opposed to cutting through the vinyl. I guess my only worry would be greater potential for them to get wet or damaged down there.

Shouldn't need to worry about the water, as those speakers are marine rated.

right, I don't know a lot about marine speakers but I was thinking more of the wires being that close to the floor in the ski locker. Damp ski's and life jackets wouldn't be an issue?

Let us know how they sound Catamount once you get the amp installed!

How do the speakers sound under the observer's seat? Debating installing a pair in that location.
