Having problems here. It started leaking as i was warming it up for the first time this year. can anyone give me suggestions on how to fix it or what is wrong? It is not a bad leak but it is noticable.

Looks like the seal gone replacement from skidim easy fix, check the bearing while your at it, probably worth changing while stripped down.

You can get a "long" impeller kit which comes with what you need to rebuild your pump.

you guys are life savers, going to order the kit, and get this done. I do not need engine problems from me not doing things needed.

Just be careful with that little seal .. the 1st time I did that job I wrecked the seal putting it in ..... you should be fine .... and the drip will stop.

Did this over we weekend. The impeller too a while to pull out, probably because i hadn't changed it in 7 or so years. It was in perfect shape surprisingly. The seal is seated pretty flush in its little pocket and i couldn't figure out how to pull it out with NN pliers. I ended up taking a long wood screw, screwing it lightly into the seal, then pulling out the screw with the seal attached to it, worked like a charm, pushed the new seal in, new impeller, new gasket and boom, no more leak whatsoever. Was so pumped i went ahead and fixed my ballast system too!

Dragging up this old thread...
I'm going to try replacing the seal on my water pump, but I've got a question about the copper/brass washer. Where does that go? When I first opened up the pump, it was between the impeller and cover plate, but had slid around quite a bit. I'm thinking maybe it's supposed to slide down the impeller shaft, then the impeller goes over it. Can anyone confirm? Thanks, Greg |
