Prostar 205 questions
looking at M/C Prostar 205's in 1996-2000. 1). Is the Corvette engine worth the extra boost considering the higher rate of gas consumption. Its a little curious that there are more boats with the Corvette on the market than without 2). any major changes along these model years that I should be aware of.

I had a 97' Prostar 205 with the 350tbi Engine. At 5280' it pulled like a champ. Mine was combined with the Power Slot transmission and that makes a huge difference. Some might argue that the 97' era hull was one of the best MasterCraft has ever produced. It is a great family size boat with a bigger emphasis on water skiing. I did add a New Dimension tower to mine and with the help of a few FatSac's we were able to create a decent wake for the wakeboard crowd as well as the surfing fanatics. All in all it was a great boat for me and would highly recommend it. Good luck and keep us posted on your search/results! As always we love pictures!

350 TBI is very good - If my '95 205 had an LT1 I wouldn't complain either...
 - Overpowered in my book is always better especially if propped correctly.

If you get a 98 or newer 205, the TBI had vortec heads and had quite the power bump over the earlier models. The 90s TBI engines are great with loads of mid range torque.

I agree with Mgorzak,
If i had the LT 1 engine in my 95 205' i wouldnt argue (I think it adds another 25 hpower or so) but I'm not going to complain either. 96 is the year the 205 hull was revamped. If you search the team talk directories, there's plenty of discussion on this. Good luck in your search!

Sammy Edition was a package of the name.....engine was always the std unless optioned. Our 97 Sammy is std 350 TBI, more than enough power. We don't weight the boat down, not serious enough to have the need.

How much power do you want, 97 tbi 275 hp coupled with the right prop. Just Magic.

I'm not sure which year they switched from the LT-1 to the LTR but my '99 has the LTR and it is an awesome engine. You can't go wrong with this combination especially if propped correctly.
