i've been looking for quite some time and i can't comment on the tower but i can comment on your price range. mine is lower, but i usually look above my price limit in case i find someone who is desparate to move their boat. i don't recall seeing any x-15's in that range. you could get the x1 hull which is called the xstar up to and including 2002, then it became the x2, and then in 06 (iirc) it became the x1. basically its the 205v hull. its a great hull but its not very roomy. my kids are 12, 10, 7 and we usually carry 2 dogs so we decided that hull was probably too small for us after being in one. you could easily find a 1st gen (01-05) x10 or x30 in that price range. they won't ski as well as the 205v hull, but a lot more family friendly. another consideration may be the 2nd gen x30. its definitely not a primary ski boat, but its well laid out and i've come across a few just below 40K. occasionally i'll see a 03+ xstar in the high 30's or low 40's. i've also seen one or two x45 at that price point. however, neither of them are primary ski boats.

for the 1st gen x10 or x30, years 01-04 used the 2nd gen zero flex tower and 05 got the 3rd gen with the swivel racks. for 01 and 02 the biggest motor usually optioned was the LTR 330HP. for 03-05 most of the x30's have the MCX which is 350HP. the x10's i've seen were split between the RTP1 and the MCX. the RTP1 is 310HP (iirc).

No one has mentioned a pickle fork X2 while shorter than the 21' it is far roomier than an X1 and it should be possible to find in the 40k range nicely equipped. The X2 will be the second most versatile boat to the X1. It is also worth mentioning the Prostar 214/ 214V since he did state the majority of what they do is ski.

If you are planning a trip to Michigan I hope that you have talked to the guys at Action Water Sports, they have a great sales staff that is incredibly knowledgeable about the products that they sell.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info, i do think the X-1 might be to small with the kids and all. I am not sure if I like the Pickle fork look but the size inside is very important so I would consider it. We do primarily ski, but I don't do the slalom course anymore and I would like to try surfing so I can compromise some on the ski wake. Do some models have hard ballasts vs. the fat s acks that don't take up the storage space in the lockers or are they all about the same. I have an email into action as well, quite a few people have mentioned to check them out so I will. Thanks again, I am learning alot.

I believe late in '09 model year. Not many '09's out there though. I believe the majority of initial sales were '10. And the few used ones I've seen for sale are mid-to-high $50k's. Would do almost all of what you're asking for though.

2009 was the first year of the 214V I believe.....

Probably would be higher than $40k at this point.

Just re-read thread, my price that I've seen mid-50's is on "x14v's". Sorry for the mis-quote. I actually have not seen any used 214v's for sale, but obviously would be less than the x's.

After a quick search this in the only '06-newer X-2 I found under $40K
I don't think you'll find an X-2 in your price range with less than 200 hours on it but that should not deter you. 300-400 hours would be common on any '05-'07 boat.

BTW, what model MC, CC and BU did you own before?
