Attention geeks: Drone Registration now required.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but I did not see it after a quick search. It looks like the FAA has stood up their website over the holidays for registering drones and is enforcing deadlines for drones between 0.5 pounds and 50 pounds. See the link below for more.

https://www.faa.gov/uas/registration/

The FAA has also created a new drone management task force that includes many of the big box retail names in the United States and a few of the big technology companies who have an interest in this evolving segment. The goal of the task force is to create standardization around things like package delivery and management of these aircraft over time, so I expect that this will be an interesting area to watch over the coming two years or so. In the meantime if you have more of that cool drone footage to share, then let's have it!

I hate that they call these things drones... I guess cuz they hover and you can put a gopro and spy on people.. you don't have to register a R/C plane or copter...

too bad the creepy people screwed this up so fast.

I don't believe that is true. From reading briefly sounds like going forward you do. I use to build and fly model aircraft so I was wondering...

A few bad eggs always ruin something that's good clean fun for the rest of us. Uncle sam will know when I hit the bathroom before too much longer

They are requiring anyone that flies an unmanned aerial system (any type of rc aircraft not just "drones") to register them self and then place that number on all of there aircraft weighing between .5 and 50 lbs to register. At this time the AMA is advising it's members not to register until they can decide a course of action or until the registration deadline is reached.

I had a laugh about this, 50 states in the US require you to register a drone but only a handful require you to register a gun? How many drone related deaths have there been compared to drone deaths?

simple answer.

Guns are a natural right enumerated in the constitution, drones are not.

True, but you can still register them.

Spending money on something that is a real non issue. :/

Just don't see the reaction vs n actual issue.

Wrong again.

No you cannot register them in the USA. Maybe in your country. We don't need any despots or genocides here, thank you very much.
