I use a Marlin 45-70 lever action.

With the 425gr bullet it kicks like a son-of-a -mule, I have not tried the 500gr bullet.

With a 325gr Hornady load its quite manageable.

A friend has a 270 Weatheby mag with a ported barrel. That thing is sweet to shoot, it kicks about like a 243.
I bet it is louder than a cannon though.

I bought a stainless Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70 for black bear hunting (and because it is cool). The Hornady Leverevolution 325 gr loads are not bad at all. There is a Winchester 300 gr JHP (X4570H) load that I have shot in the past and recoil is even less than the Hornady.

The guide gun is cool.....mine is the longer barrel model.

I think i saw on Midway.com that Hornaday was going to make a 200gr 45-70 load ? I never saw whether it happened ?

Fun gun.

That is the only reason I hate muzzle breaks.
