Powering Rev10's?
Hey Everyone,
So i'm looking at upgrading to Rev10's... and need some advice on what amps to use and associated costs. I'd be replacing 4 MC cans, so there might be some for sale soon... Anyway, at 300 watts RMS a piece x 4 they're extremely power-hungry, and i'm having a hard time figuring what amps to get to power these puppies. Anyone have these on their boat/any suggestions? btw dont ask why... i just want the absolute loudest best sounding system on the water. I may need an audiologist soon considering i'd be pushing 1200 watts RMS from the TOWER... Also... anyone have any idea of the hang weight of these guys? they look REALLY heavy, |

I looked into adding 2 rev 10s to my tower (currently 1 pro 485) and here is what John Gyver from Wetsound told me:
"I would use a SYN4 bridged to power a pair of REV10’s and use a SYN2 bridged on the PRO485…. If you do this you just may have the baddest system on the lake! Baddest is a real word…. I promise! ![]() Honestly you would have a ton of power on some very high power speakers… that combo would simply be downright dangerous. It will sound good, look good and the guys on the boat a mile away will hear you…. Seriously. It will be a dual amplifier setup… I don’t know of any amps that are powerful enough by themselves." I have yet to pull the trigger, because im not sure if i want to run 3 amps in the boat. Right now i have a syn 6 running 4 inboard speakers and the 485 and a smaller JL 250w amp running a 10" sub. I think 3 amp might be too much drain on the 90amp alt. |

agar,
you could pull this off, but you would need to digital amps. they draw 1/2 of what a analog amp does. It'll definitely be a 3 amp boat. Also... i assume they mean bridging the syn4 then running the speakers in series... but that only provides 200 watts RMS a piece. Not going to be enough... |

remember i am only running 2 rev10s in my setup. So each will see 400watts/rms at 4ohms mono from the syn4 as it does 400x2 @ 4ohms mono

Going all digital would require me to change all my amps. My 485 is plenty loud and the boat makes ripples in the water from the bass. I really dont need it any louder haha

dar your right...
so i could use 2 syn4's for my setup... not sure about giving them 400 watts a piece though when they're only rated at 300 rms... yea.. that'd be 1600 watts from the tower. |

300rms / 600max...
Wetsound under-rates their speakers also, i am running 600x1 to the 485, and the guy told me to run 750x1 to it... I think he is nuts haha |

You coudl run 2 of the new JL 750/1 and put about 375 to each
or 2 of the 600/1 and put 300 to each if u run them in series or w/e will give each pair a 2 ohm load... http://marine.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=470 |

We usually use a bridged Wetsounds Syn4 or a JL Audio HD750/1 to drive a pair of REV10s. So dual WS Syn4s or dual JL HD750/1s to drive two pair. Its not that they (REV10s) are power hungry. They are actually much more efficient than lower rated speakers. Its just that the power handling and potential dynamics are so great with the REV10s. We run at the higher end of the power spectrum (typically around 400 watts each) so the REV10s reach their potential.
The JL HD750/1 has greater value for tower speakers than the HD600/4 as its $100 less for 25 percent more power. Btw, the JL Audio HD series are strictly regulated so they will do the guaranteed power rating with 11 volts supply. Most amplifiers lose 25 percent of the rated power when you drop from the 14.4 volt qualifier to a more realistic 12.5 volts. And, the JL Audio HD750/1s are stackable so two will only use the footprint of a single amplifier if space is tight. Plus, they are very compact to begin with. The HD750/1 has a top end frequency response that extends beyond 30 kHz. Pretty darn fast and clean. Class D does not denote "digital" as these are absolutely a pure analog topology. Fullrange Class D is around 60 percent more efficient than a Class AB. Class AB will create 400 percent more heat when drawing the identical current as a Class D. Wetsounds uses Class G/H which is also very efficient as compared to Class AB. David Earmark Marine
