gps check for real speed
So i took my garmin 705 (bike gps) and set it to take the most readings, and proceeded to see how off my PP and obviously my speedo were. Turns out, i was running 21.7 on the PP, 21.7 on the speedo, but actually 24.7 on the GPS.
Adjusted the PP and the speed to match the gps and will have to see what it feels like when we ride tomrrow. 24.7 seems fast behind an X1 even with all the weight we have in it... |

I ride 23.7 at 75' behind my boat with about 3000lbs in it. Any more weight or further out would require a little more speed.
I checked my speedo with GPS and mine was right on at wakeboarding speeds, but was off by 6mph on the top end. Speedo said the boat was going 48, but GPS said 42.

I'm at 24.5 at 75', GPS verified, with about 2500#-could not get the wake clean on the port side any slower.

I guess this weekend was the weekend for speedo calibration. Mine was off about 1.5 mph. I now run 22 @ 70' with about 2,000 and 3 to 5 peeps.

Also, for those with iPhones, i have an app simply called "speed" that is a decent GPS speedo that is very convenient for checking boat speedos. I verified its accuracy against a Garmin, and it is accurate. It has a little bit of a slow refresh, probably around a second or so, but once you stabilize the boat speed it works fine. Also nice is that it displays tenths of a MPH, which even my Garmin didn't. Its not very accurate at slower speeds, i.e. <10MPH, but good around riding speeds.

I ride 24.7 on 75ft line with my ballast. My wake wont clean up unles I am over 23mph with everything filled.
I would say I am on the high side speed wise. Most my buds are at 23.5mph

Do not forget to add/substract the speed of the river current. I guess lakes do not have current...???

If you have a Droid you can use an APP called SpeedView, but it does not do tenths.
