Question Double boot bindings question-First time use

OK, now that I can start deep water on one ski, I installed a rear Contact binding on my seige so I am sporting double boots for the first time. the question is this: How tight should they be??

in the past I have always skied with RTP skis that would come off my feet safely in a fall to avoid ankle/leg injuries. now that I have double boots, is it safer to wear the boots tighter so that BOTH feet stay in the ski if you fall?? or is that unsafe? I guess The way I see it is if BOTH feet stay in the ski, you dont risk ankle or leg injury by the ski being on ONE leg in a fall, and the ski wont fly off in a fall and bang you in the head or something. ?? I just thought of making the boots good and snug, slip them on with shave cream and tighten the back laces up good and snug. whatcha think??

Whats the safe way to go here?

I am going out skiing this weekend for the first time with double boots.

I'd suggest just leaving them loose. I never cinched up my contacts on my Mapple or my O'Brien G2. For recreational skiing, they'll give you plenty of support without lacing up.

Come to think of it, I don't cinch up my animals much either, if at all.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

I like mine tight enough so that there is no movement of my foot. Lateral or front - to - back. I don't have my boots cinched tight.

I would be more concerned getting too crazy on a RTP ski since if you fall, the rear foot is almost guaranteed to come out, and you never know whats going to happen with one foot in and the ski flopping all over the place.

I have taken many spills in double boots and I can only remember a handful of times that I really popped out of them. Beautiful wipeouts too.

I have perfected the art of falling........

PS.......good luck with the doubles this weekend.

The bad thing about boats, is when they break, they break expensive.

Both of mine are cinched down nice and tight...I don't want to go anywhere!!! I mean, isn't that why they have laces in the first place?

I keep mine tight, I don't like movement or having them coming off in a fall. In 18 years of skiing w/ dbls, I have never even come close to injury anything regarding having DBLs, if you fall hard enough they will come off. I have injured other areas however, such as ribs and back. Make sure you pivot the rear plate if you have that option ( animals have pivoting rear plate).

Hey Upper, I had the same concern with the Contacts. Well, they were so tight I could hardly get in and out when I wanted to let a lone a fall. My skiing ability took a bit of a dive as I skied too cautiously to avoid falls. Now I don't care and cinch the laces. I've gotten used to the ski staying on in a hard fall. I've only had one bad experience (last Friday) of breaking at the waste, taking a header into the water, torso stopping, ski and legs bending me over backwards.

My snow skis usually stay on in falls too. I like things battened down.

If you stretch them out, then you can cinch them when you want to be tight or ride a little looser. It's nice to have the option.

I'll have to put my pics back up on that thread - they got dumped during the last update.
