Half Of Thermostat Missing!
My 97 PS190 with the LT1 has been running very cold around 140 degrees. I removed the upper thermostat housing the other day and pulled the thermostat out to find only half of it there! Someone had cut the lower half off! Has anyone ever heard of someone doing this? I wonder if it was stuck shut and the previous own just cut it off to make sure there was proper water flow! A new one is on order and will be installed this weekend!

My wife's jeep had the lower half seperate at the welds...but it was sitting in the T-Housing. Maybe they did cut it off, sounds like they didn't know that without a normal operating temp the engine is less efficent?

There are some real "gomers" out there, and I don't mean one's who like boys......
When I first met Patty, she had a beat up Trans Am in her garage.. Pretty cool with the "4 wheel disc" brake option.. ( It had stickers in the door handles saying this... You can imagine my scare when looking underneath it and seeing 3 discs and one drum on the left rear?? It must have taken some work to african rig that up..... |

In reference to what Rick said (about the stickers on the door handles of the Trans Am, not the other), I've noticed that GM has a tendency to put something about each car's special features somewhere on the car (back of the trunk, door handles, quarter panel, etc.). From "EFI" to "4-wheel discs" to "Quad4" to "ABS", they almost seem to have to put something on the car to let the world know that this car is special. Some of them are almost funny because it looks like they're desperate to find something to put on there. I keep waiting for one with a badge that says "Engine" or "Steering Wheel" to appear on the trunk lid.

I guess I should have stated the Trans Am was a 1980.. 4 wheel disc cars were, at least american made, very rare then......

River Rat. 160-165 degrees is where your 98 should be running as far as I know! Mine stuggles to get to 140 degrees due to half the thermostat missing! |
