Bearing Buddy size
Anybody know what size Bearing Buddy fits on a 1998 single axle M/C trailer with 6 bolt wheels? The boat I hope to buy this weekend is 4 hours away, and I'd like to take a pair along for insurance for the drive home.

why don't you wait until you buy the boat, then pick up bearing buddies on your way out of town? Or buy two sets, return the one you don't need.

Picking the boat up on Sunday- not sure who is open. The common size I found in the parts places today was 1.980, and will take those with me, but I thought the 6 bolt hubs might not be a common size.

Oh, yeah, I can help you with this question.
If you have the 6-bolt hubs from 1998, you have a UFP 5200 pound axle. The information you're looking for is: Drum: Unique Functional Products #42 (HD-1750) Inner Outer Spindle 1.75" 1.25" Bearings BR25580 LM67048 Bearing cups BR25520 LM67010 UFP Bearing kit 07009U Hub Seal OD 3.265" 2.328" Hub Seal ID 2.125" Hub Seal Model 326-213-sp2-1 or UFP 07029U (NOK Equiv AD7131E) (Transcom equiv 21325TB) Bearing Buddy Model #2328 OEM Brake Backing Plates: Dico 12"x2", standard. Brake shoes: FMSI #62 Hope this helps. The Bearing Buddies won't help you at all if the bearings are in need of grease - they barely supply any grease at all to the outer bearings, and none at all to the rear bearings. The grease that you inject with the buddies does three things: 1. It pressurizes the inside of the hub, to give you all the water-rejection features that Bearing Buddies are good for. You could use compressed air for this function. 2. It puts grease between the piston and the bore in the bearing buddy to keep the pressurized air from leaking out. 3. It makes you feel like you're greasing the bearings. You're not. If the bearings look iffy, pumping up the buddies won't help. /frank

Thanks for taking the time to post all that. I wish all trailer bearings were set up like my newer enclosed trailer- it has the EZ Lube hubs with a zerk on the end of the spindle and injects grease between the bearings. Wish I would have thought of that.

Yeah, I saw those hubs and thought it was pretty slick...
No problem on the post - I just cut-and-pasted from the info sheet I keep on the computer for the boat. If you're looking at a 200VRS (as the boat listed in your profile), Here's the rest of the info I have. Some of it won't apply to an LT-1, but ya gets what ya pays for. /frank PS Send me an email and I can get you some more info on the boat - scans of the sales brochures, etc. Boat: 1998 Mastercraft Maristar 200 VRS Engine: Indmar Vortec MX Plus, 5.7L, 308 HP Stock Prop: OJ Legend 14x20, 4 blade Propshaft: 1-1/8" V-Drive: ZF Hurth 1.5:1 Fluid: Dexron, or 10w-30 Plugs: MR43LTS Belt: Indmar 725018 Impeller: Johnson 812 Fuel Filter: AC PF2059, Napa Gold 3481 Oil Filter: Napa Gold 1060, AC PF1218.
