Storing With Half Full Ballast?

I have always had problems getting my KGB ballast to drain and this last weekend it would not drain 100%, the display reads about 50% full, I thought I could get it to drain on the trailer but can't get anything to come out. My questions are:

1.) Is there a way to drain it manually?
2,) What risk do I run storing it half full- season is basically over so not sure if/when I will get out again.

I would think that you could put a hose down through the overflow outlet and syphon it out or use a pump to pump it out. I would assume not getting most of the water out would risk splitting the tank.

Do you have green impellers?

If so, try parking on a steep hill (bow up) and see if more water comes out.

Last resort, take the hose off the KGB pump and suck the water out with a shop vac.

sure its actually 50% full? could it be a calibration issue with the ballast sending units?

thanks guys, not sure which impellers I have in there, I think they replaced them with the good ones. Not sure if it's actually 50% full just going of what Vdig says. Last time this happened I just filled it and then drained it and seemed to work, just didn't think to do it before I pulled her out....

open the center port and you should be able to see how much is in the tank. If you can't get it out, put some RV water tank antifreeze in it.

Pull the drain hose off the kgb, it should be towards the back(rear of boat) side of the kgb. It's just a rubber hose with a hose clamp, then connects to the tank with a plastic 90 degree elbow, unscrew that. Your center drain plug is right there. I would think most of the water will drain. Then just winterize it by sucking up a gallon of RV antifreeze through the T value by the pumps, just connect a hose to the T and run your pump.

awesome; Thanks guys. I keep it in my garage so no risk of freezing but I will try some of these methods. Ideally I would like to get out again and see if I can just do it on the water but the weather out here in Oregon will change real quick... This week it is dropping from 98 to 60's and all downhill from there.

I like that idea, we use to hit every month at least once a year so we could say we did. Had a kid last year so it slowed way up. Hope to keep on it this year but who knows.
