That stuff is really harsh on bare feet and especially on leg hair. I put some on my jeep door sills and it would rip hair out of my legs frequently.

Here's the deal. Whatever tape we use, the adhesive has to be great. The last thing you want happening in the tape coming up and slapping the side of your boat on the highway. This happened to me last summer and I was lucky to notice immediately......

I cleaned the fenders with acetone before installing them and mine have been fine for 3 years.

Used to be easy to find. And cheap, too. I remember paying $11 for a set about 8 years ago.

Antislip tape
When I repainted the trailer some 8 years ago I had taped off the small (6x9) MC logo. Due to spending too much time on TT reading and looking at the great work, I decided to peel off the old ones and make some new longer ones as replacements. Due to a mismatch in the trailer paint color I added some vinyl to cover the old cutout area that matched the stripe color on the boat (88 Tristar). The material that Antislip Tape Shop (antisliptapeshop.com) has was exactly the same as the original. They had a 1' x 4' strip ($11.00) which was enough for both (dual axle) fenders. I ordered two pieces due to the shipping. On their website they refer to it as 'resilient' type. The typical 3M griptape stuff was available locally, but only 3 or 4" wide size. So far, no problems with them sticking. I would just avoid thin tapes areas which might be prone to getting pushed around or not sticking well.

I used some grip tape from work. I had a good template to use. I layed the paper over the good one, cut it out and used a good razor blade to cut the grip tape. Pretty easy, minor cost. I will trim the edges when i bring the boat out of storage

I removed my old pads for my 190 trailer this weekend and cut out some new ones with an xacto knife. Ordered the material from R & P Carriages. Added three stars to the front pad to spice it up a bit. I think it will look pretty cool once I get the rest of the adhesive off the fenders. Is acetone the recommended treatment?
