Engine trouble '08 X2 MCX

Our first day out this season, the engine ran a bit rough to start, then eventually smoothed out but was surging a bit, especially around 3k rpm. That too improved a bit, but it could only turn about 4400 wide open instead of redline. I foolishly wrote it off to older gas from last season and high altitude.

Today, though, things got much worse. It started and seemed to be running fine during a run across the lake, but after getting the tube out and pulling the kids for a few minutes, "Service Required" showed up on the DIG and it really started surging and losing power. In neutral, it would run and rev smoothly, but when we started heading back to the ramp, it would barely go. Not sure if it was in limp mode or just running poorly. I experimented with turning the key and battery off then restarting. It ran well for a minute after that but then suddenly lost a bunch of power.

Pulling it to the dealer after this trip, but any guesses in the meantime? At the end of last season, it was last at the dealer for 100hr and winterization. Fuel pump/pressure?

Distributor cap

Turns out it was a bad distributor cap put on at the last service apparently from a bad batch and is a national problem.

The '08 MCX isn't distributorless? My LTR is 8 years older and is distributorless.

Glad it was an easy fix.

Funny huh, my '96 LT-1 was more high tech than my '06 MCX.
