Prolly a dumb question

Hey yall... what is the "plug" between my exhaust on the rear of the boat? My curiosity wanted to unscrew it this weekend... but I fought it! Is this the oil drain?

On my old SS it was the oil drain so I am sure that it is the same on yours.

Well there is a drain on my 83 in the floor just in front of the motor, and another drain in the rear of the boat which is the plug you describe. If your boat has a long black hose attached to the oil pan than yes you can run it back to that drain and catch the oil there, but I always thought it was just another bilge hole.

Some of the older boats actually had an oil drain and a bilge hole I thought, but maybe I am wrong.

Gotcha... got the same set up... before I opened it up I wanted to be sure of what it was... I am changing the oil this weekend and just wanted to be really sure of everything.

Thanks!

I think you will find that the plug on the transom is just a bilge drain. The hose attached at the oil drain on the pan is about 2 feet long which you can stick through the center bilge drain. I have seen old Mastercrafts from the 70's with oil drain hoses running back to the transom but I haven't seen that on 80's and newer boats. By the way, I live in Ft Worth and have a '83 as well.
