Impeller Housing problem...how can i fix this? PIC

I was inspecting the engine in preparation for getting my new (to me) boat ready for it's maiden voyage. After reading this forum, I have heard alot about changing impellers for each season. When I looked at where this was, this is what I found. The bolt in the right hand side of the cover is not missing but actually broken off inside of the housing. Any thought on how I can fix this? SHould I fix it if it doesnt leak? Do I have to buy a whole new housing? I am 2.5 hrs away from a MC dealer. Thanks in advance!

Those screws are soft brass. Get a left-hand drill bit smaller than the screw size and with your drill in reverse try to carefully drill into the broken screw. Use a centerpunch first to put a mark in the center of the broken screw. Soak screw with WD40 before drilling.

OR, if it doesn't leak, don't worry about it and keep an eye on it. Fix it in the off-season.

The good news is that it looks like you have a direct drive so you can likely remove this without having to remove the pump. The complete raw water pump is expensive though (~$250) so be careful.

I would take the cover off.. Looks like it might be sticking up out of the housing enough that you can get at it with a pair of vice grips.

If not pick up a screw extractor.

First thing is to remove the cover like stated above and see if you can grip what is sticking out carefully and just remove it. I am not a fan of screw extractors or ease outs. I would get a smaller reverse direction drill bit and try to drill this out backwards. A lot of the time if you take your time and center your drill bit the offending screw will back out under power. I ordered new screws for mine through skidim and just replaced them last year.

I just broke one off yesterday putting my impeller back in the housing after winter layup

I have done this twice in 10 years of owning direct drives.....both times now I've been able to take the cover off and there is enough broken screw sticking out to either turn with a needle nose, vice grips, or like yesterday....by hand.

Surprisingly my Mastercraft dealer who is only 9 miles away didn't have any....guess their techs either don't change impellers or have never broken off a screw

Fastenal was closed

I broke one off last year.My came out really easy.
Take the cover off.
Find a sharp pick.or an old screw driver and grind a sharp point on it.
Put the point of the pick on the broken screw and turn out.
Then buy four new screws from SkiDim.

I guess that the best way to get it clear is drilling, but if you didn't see this solution the first moment, maybe you haven't done it many times yet, in which case it's much secure for you to take the hole pump off and take it to a garage or a handy man, and he'll drill it for you.
I'd definitely practice on a cheaper piece.

Exact same thing happened on mine. Screw extractor - by hand. Ordered new screws from Skidim. Quick fix.

First thing I'd do is throw those screws in scrap screw drawer and get SS Allen bolts.
Might be good idea to chase/tap the threads in the housing body with bottoming tap.
