Mounting differences between different years' MC/Gere Marie speaker cans?

The nubs i think you are referring to started in 2008 in that there were four (4) flanges welded to the bottom of each tower ... gives us owners the flexibility of adding lights and/or speakers, and all are pre-wired. Having added two additional speakers to my '04 X9, it was very tough to properly drill all the holes without a template, and I did have one of the speakers off a a little

The 07 and up have "nubs" or standoffs as someone more eloquently put it. These have more adjustability I believe.
Craig I don't believe the style in the Xstar pic aer adjustable side to side. I installed the speakers on my X2 (2006) and they adjust up/down some, but the can is machined to fit pretty snug against the tower, not able to spin them much, couple degrees maybe.

0n my 2006 there were allen head grub screws within the machined radius area that you can turn in/out to adjust the attitude of the speaker can - took me a bit to figure it out, but im pretty sure thats what they are for.

There is an adapter to to adapt the 2005-2006 cans to a later tower with 'standoffs'
Is there an adapter to mount the 2007 & later cans to a 2005-2006 (or earlier?) tower?

And yes, I could use a pair of cans for my 2005 tower... now that I have the mounting options narrowed down!

I don't think so. I remember seeing a thread were someone bought the standoffs from Gere Marie and had them welded to the their older tower.

Looking at the 2006 pictures, is it the 2 screw holes you can see at the mounting location?
I don't recall exactly what the inside of the can looks like, but with the bolt holes and wire pulling holes on either side being slotted I could see being able to adjust them.

Yes it is the two screw holes infront and behind the main mounting bolt hole for adjustment
