Clarion M455 and remote

Does anyone have any experience with the Clarion M455 receiver? How about the wired remote? My blank face gauge fell out of my dash and now is as good of time as any to replace my JVC head unit and add a wired remote to the gauge hole.

Any reason you want clarion?? What year and model boat??

I really like Clarion's new remote but the performance of any of their head units is mediocre at best. It all depends upon your system and how you plan on using it. For 4 speakers + sub and a couple of amplifiers it will get the job done but there is much better out there for the same price or cheaper. Both Sony and pioneer now have wired marine remotes. I posted a few pics of the pioneer remote a while back. The Sony remote is also very nice and has a display.

Any specific questions let me know.

Main reason for Clarion is that their wired, non display, remote will fit in my dash. According to the specs I see on Crutchfield.com, the Sony is too big for the dash and the Pioneer that I checked out is also odd shaped and will not fit. I have four speakers and a 600 watt amp now and I am planning on adding a set of tower speakers by next summer. Nothing special or over the top, just good sound that I can crank up every now and then...

I just replaced my original Clarion unit (m5445 I beleive) with the newer M455 last week-end. It is an OK unit, better than the original one that came with the boat (2000 X5 same as 2000 PS195). It plays well enough at the low volume I use it.

The remote plug fitted right in but I had to change the main wire plug as it was not the same as the older Clarion unit. My remote is the older non dislay one and was factory installed on the arm rest just over the trottle arm. It looks like it could fit in the blank gage hole if needed.

Yeah, I undestand about the remote.............. your boat is older than 04 and has the small skinny strip by the throttle.

You should be fine with the M455. If you are not happy with the way is sounds you can always add a line driver/eq for a bit more control/power. The clarion is a well built unit I just wish they would put some Pro level features into the marine line.

Good luck............

Is the M455 an MP3 player too? I have the older one from 2K and it just won;t die. I'd upgrade if it's MP3. Is the aux 'in' in the back? Thanks!

I don't remember if the unit will play MP3 cds. It plays CDR well and has an aux in in the back. You can also adjust the input level (low-med-high) of the rear plug. I use it with my son's small MP3 player though the earphone jack. It works OK.

I'd find it difficult when upgrading to not go with something that will play MP3's, since that seems to be the way technology is going
