Smart Plug?

My blank face gauge fell out of my dash the other day. Behind it are a red and black wire. The red wire is factory labeled "Smart Plug". Any ideas what it is for?

If it's so smart, why not ask it?

Seriously, you could call MC or a dealer. If they still have that as part of the harness, they can tell you. Do you have PP or anything like that as an aftermarket installation?

My boat's plug in the transom has some sort of sensor in it so when in the boat, a light on my dash is not lit, when out of the boat then it lights as a reminder to put it in. Not a bad idea but it should have been installed in the bilge plug since that is the only one that ever gets pulled.

I held it (the red wire (yea, yea I know what you're thinking )) in my hand and asked it repeatedly..."What are you for, what are you for?" It never did answer me so I don't think it is as smart as it thinks. Installed Perfect Pass myself...maybe depth gauge?
