1995 Prostar "FLOOD DAMAGE" rebuild

Purchased this boat back in the beginning of September from CooperSS.com. It was on Lake Mcquinney here in Texas during the real bad June flood. It is a controlled lake so it was on a stationary dock. The water rose so fast no one had time to push their boats out which cause literally hundreds of boats to be damaged, (mostly inboards).

It is a 1995 Mastercraft Prostar 190 with the LT1 option for that year. White with red/purple accents on the interior and exterior. 1400 hours! yikes!

The "salvage yard" where all of the the local boats were being kept was also a marine service company. The boat had been serviced by them for the past few years so I was able to get a little history on it. He had pickled the engine prior to parking it and said that it had some cooling issues earlier in the year but all was taken care of.

First thing I did when getting the boat home was pull the interior out so nothing would be damaged during the process of the rebuild. The interior is literally flawless, doubt that it is the original vinyl but it is not brand new either.

Next I pulled all the old plugs out and replaced them with the CORRECT delco plugs, changed the oil twice, replaced the fuel filter, pulled the fuel cell and drained it. Here you can see that it did in fact "sink" or at least the *** end did...



Next was a new battery and tried to start it. Turned and turned but nothing. Took about half a day of tracing wires and checking relays before we looked up at the lanyard.....that wasn't plugged in. FAIL.

After we secured the lanyard it cranked right up. Ran it up to operating temp a few times and started to get it ready for the trip down to Kemah for fiberglass work.

Next was replacing all of the lights on the trailer, checking tires and brakes.



Kemah is about a 3.5 hour drive for me and some people were wondering why take it so far. Friend of the family and he is a MASTER at gelcoat work. Here are some of the pictures he took during the process of repairing the fiberglass and gelcoat.

Welcome to Team Talk. Looks like a great project. Did you ever find out how long the boat sat wet? Did any water get into the trans? I can see why you drove the distance for the great fiberglass/gel work.

While it was in Kemah for two weeks I got a little bored and decided to give the swimdeck some attention. First off, a small piece had been broken off so I removed a few screws, sanded it, and applied some waterproof wood glue. Countersunk about 6 more stainless screws on the backside for some added strength. The deck had also been sealed with GOBS of sealer so it all had to be sanded off and teak oil was applied.

Not sure how long it sat submerged. The transmission fluid looks extremely clean.

Picked it up last Friday from Kemah and I am amazed at how perfect he matched the gelcoat. You literally cannot tell any work was done. AT ALL. It is back here at the shop and I am waiting till I have some free time to dip it in the lake and check mechanicals one last time. Installing new radio (the old radio turned on but no sound was coming out), remotes and some small interior pieces.
