x2 fuel pressure

i know theres a lot of threads on pumps on here but i have a question regarding the regulator.
i read that my pressure should be 53 to 58 psi .but what pressure does the pump actually work at ie is it 60 ,70 80psi or higher? and the regulator just works more or less to control it.? im looking at changing my pump but didnt want to overload the regulator..has everyone come to a decision on which pump is best for this application?if so which one is it ,thanks for any input .
