No spark

Finally got my starting problem fixed by changing the starter solinoid but now i don't have spark for some reason. There is power going from the coil to the distributor but it stops there...we just changed the points and consensor and cap and rotor but that was put in by a boat mechanic. What could our problem be? We are stumped.

Did you check or substitute the coil wire? If you have a 351 motor, try that. Otherwise, if you have a timing light, you can put it on the coil wire to test for spark, too. If you have none, stick a piece of wire in and connect it to the distributor to see if it wil run.

If you do this, make sure you turn off any sensitive electronics, so they don't get zapped by stray RF.
