I understand there's roughly 3" per side of flex out or in, but I'd rather get it right the first time. I would imagine that it's between 67 inches and 72", or is it 73" to 78"? Can anyone shed some light on this - ie., tell me what the heck the measurement is?
Ouch.
I measured my '85 and it worked out that the 73-78 would fit on the gunwales outside the windshield frame. IIRC, (and I am going from memory), the frame was something like 73 or 74" wide at the outer edge, and there was 2 3/4" on each side from the edge of the frame to the edge of the gunwale, and when I added the 5.5" to the windshield measurement, I came out around 79"-81".

Bear in mind this is memory, so I'm not totally exact, but that's about the size of it. I would think a 73-78 would work fine for a gunwale mount.

I was just checking that out, but they really don't have a color that would work. Bummer. Guess I could go with black, but I'm not crazy about the idea.

Thanks for the info! By the way, I hate to be ignorant, but what is "IIRC?"

Acronym for "If I Recall Correctly".

Just makes it faster to type.

Got it! I figured it meant something like that, but it was just faster not to think about it! Haha! I really appreciate the information. I have been using a larger umbrella that works pretty good when just floating, but it's kind of funny when I'm tied up to my brother and other friends with their big fancy wakeboard boats. I'm floating behind a '09 Supra 21' (a good friend's boat) and a '08 Tige 24' (brother's boat) and it reminds of the old, "...must be from the other side of the tracks" saying. There are their nice towers with speakers, etc, etc, and there on the end is my blue WalMart umbrella! The tracks seem too run between my boat and the others, although I think my boat is far, far cooler than theirs. Actually, the Supra owner sold a '77 S&S to my brother several years ago, so that's where my love began.

Footin', my boat is white with dark blue stripes, white stars/logo, and red pinstriping. Black would be okay, as might red, but I'd rather have a dark blue or white. Just personal preference. Black does go with everything though. And you know, black is the new white...

I can't find a picture of mine with the bimini, there is one on this site somewhere. It is the second best thing I ever added to my boat after the perfect pass.
