Unhappy 85 351 Indmar missing after warming up

I am at wits end. I started this season replacing the points with a breakerless ignition kit from skidim. I replace the coil at the same time. Boat ran well for about a day but kept backfiring after it was warmed. I assumed this might be a timing issue and let a local marina set the timing and index the distributor and replace the plugs. I rebuilt the carb while it was in line to be worked on.

Engine fires up great, idles great, runs great just like it was new EXCEPT after it warms up it begins to skip and miss. Engine is not running hot. Oil pressure is good. If I let it cool down it will run well again. Only thing I haven't replaced is the spark plug wires which I am in the process of trying to obtain. (I called my local MC dealer they told me they would have to call MC tomorrow to find out which cables I need. I have search the local Auto parts stores with no sucess.)

Any help would appreciated my kids look at me as a failure since this year we have had so many engine problems.

Plug wires and make sure the firing order is right. Use a good dielectric grease on the spark plug boots and the rotor cap boots on these new wires before installing. Some on here have talked of a vapor lock problem and may have more information on this then me. See if that fixes your problem. If it doesn't then you need to question what has been done.

Talking Issue Resolved

Replaced the spark plug wires. Same result. Looked under distributor cap and low and behold the marina left off one of the two screws holding the electronic ignition switch. $%^&*. Replaced the screw boat runs great. Thanks for the help.

Glad it worked out. I hate having to go back and trouble shoot stuff that should be right. Too many times in the past I have had to sit back and figure out what we did and did it make the problem worse, better or no effect at all. Then go back and check everything from a to b in order before proceeding with a different plan.

When you decide to replace the plug wires, go to http://skidim.com/
I have worked with Karen, Vince and Richard and have been very happy there.
