motor starts then dies in 20 seconds

08 x2 with only 40 hours on the new motor. We were out surfing when the motor lost power backfired and died. Motor starts and idles perfect for about 20 seconds then dies. Any suggestions? Its the fourth of July and the family is bummed. Dealer wont be open until Tuesday. New motor explained under engine drive train thread.

I would say you have bad fuel or something like that, Fuel pump would make sense also.

Thanks for the input. Dockside repair proved to be too much. Ended up playing on the waverunner. Heading to dealer in the morning. I will post results when I know more.
