BTW how hard is it to get at the nuts for the tower bolts? my gasket has slipped and looks rediculous, i want to at least straighten it back into place.

It doesn't seem too hard on my X-5 (PS190). You've got to be somewhat nimble to climb under the front hull.

I believe the hex for the tower is 1/2". I looked around here at hardware stores and even harbour freight tools and finally found one at northerntool.com for $10.

Remember angular dimensions for these towers varies. Jeff's design is one that will last a lifetime. Perhaps the factory should consider an outsourcing option?

It's gonna cost them, Steve...

So, knowing this, I was asked if these tower pads will work for a particular application:

"I've got a 2001 Maristar 210 with a Zeroflex tower. It is a hull copy of a X-10. Do you think that the pads would work for it? "

Any idea if they will work?

FYI - I found out after talking to a local dealer that MC doesn't make the pads for the zero flex tower anymore. Instead, they suggest just cutting to fit a dense foam material from the hardware store. I haven't looked at the hardware store yet to see what material I could find that would be best suited for this application, but if I find something that works I'll let y'all know.

Jeff's pads are really nice, but more than I am willing to pay for this particular item. Thanks again for the offer.

-David

I have the same issue with the rubber pads. Now, all MC towers come with a nylon block that goes between the tower leg and the fiberglass part of the boat. When I was last at the factory (March 2010), they told me the current tower design (2007 - 2010) all use the same front and rear feet. My tower is a 2005. I am going to order a set of these nylon blocks and have a buddy machine them to fit my 2005 tower feet. I'll let everyone know if it works.

BTW - M-funF: those tower pads you made look GREAT!!!!

I say no. They will not. Unless it is a 2005 or newer tower on the boat.

MC stopped using the full-size Zero-Flex Flyer towers in 2004 and the mini towers in 2007.

The pads Mfunf made will ONLY work on the Zero-Flex Flyer Towers.

Also, they were designed for the hull profile of the 190/197. We have been unable to try the pads on any other hulls and cannot guarantee the fit.

For a little more description, the Zero-Flex Flyer towers look like the New Dimension towers. The Zero-Flex Flyer towers consist of two (2) tower legs that typically follow the windshield radius and then an upper assembly that is the actual tower.

Below are samples of the Zero-Flex Flyer towers....

Full Height (01-04)

Mini (01-07)

Nice lookin boats, Sodar!

Here is a website where you can order rubber sheets or film for tower pads/gaskets and cut your own.

I ordered the poly film in .1" (thickest option for film). It comes in a 12" x 6" sheet with a 70 durometer rating (four choices for hardness at that thickness and this was hardest) which is medium soft like pencil eraser density (but much more durable). I hope it's thick and tough enough. I'll let ya know how it works.

The rubber sheets have more options for thickness and hardness and size to build your own.
