Time for a New big block
Last year I bought my first Mastercraft a 89 Maristar 240 with a 454. I bought it running rough and found out my heads were shot ( at least 3 cracked intake runners). Now I'm replacing the whole thing because if it was overheated I won't chance it. I'd like to do a long block set (got a set of old heads from a friend). So a few questions:
1, Mastercraft can't search my HIN it's a year too old, says my HH means 425hp 454 with a 1:1 and a one inch shaft----can anyone confirm this? 2. Anyone have a recommended place to get a long block and parts? (I've been looking at USengines.com 3. Want to rebuild my trans while im in there (had water in the fluid last year) anyone recommend a kit or place to buy one? |

Jasper marine engines are as good as they get. They come with a real warranty, but they aren't going to be your cheapest option.

Trans rebuilds aren't that hard, but there are really only 2 ways that I can think of getting water in there.
A: having enough water in your bilge to get up to the seals/dip stick. B: A failed trans cooler. If you never have that much water in the bilge, then the transcooler should be replaced, if you do then stop, and if you do and are seeing transfluid leaks then you need front/rear seals. If you are doing the engine you can rebuild the trans, but it might not be needed. Engine wise I don' thave a source, I've never done one, I've looked at several sources however. Jasper I've come across before, http://www.michiganmotorz.com/marine...s-c-31_51.html |

I have looked into Jasper but have not called and I feel the website leaves a lot to be desired. I have checked out GM perfomance as well as every other car site.
The trans is a big concern because I know much about it. I have never seen that much water in it. Im gonna go with a blown cooler. fits just another symptom of my blown overheated motor |

I know a guy that has a newly completely rebuilt LT-1. Cannot give you any specifics on it, but that would be a pretty cool replacement.

ATK makes a 415 hp 454. I've heard good things about their car engines.
