Replacing stringers and floor, any advice?

The MasterCraft Project - I am replacing the stringers and the floors in this 79 MC 190 Skier and wanted to know if anyone else has had to do the same for their restoration project? I have some good advice on how to start but wanted to hear from any pros that can lend some advice on the type of resins to use with the fiberglass matting?

Is it best to use mat or strand? And which resin is better for structural? General Purpose Polyester Resin? or Isophthalic Polyester Resin?

79 SnS, I too have a '79 that is a work in progress... I'm about to start work on the fiberglass swim platform and stop the leaks that caused me grief last year.

Do you have any pics of the transom / gas tank area when you removed the gas tank? I checked your facebook page, but didn't notice any photos that show the entire area. I'm really curious to see what that area looks like.

Thanks!

Skipper, Thanks for the info.

When I took the tank out it looks exactly like Bellinghamster's boat from the inside (see link in post #6 above and go to last pic in post #8). All 9 "bolts" were lag screws with 7 out of 9 just barely poking through the transom and two of them sort of going into the inboard set of stringers.

Memories

Wow, what a walk down memory lane. As much "fun" as I had doing the stringers in my '78, it was sure nice this spring to just put the plugs in and go for a ski!

Kudos for doing it right. You're breathing another 30+ years of life into those beautiful craft!

There's a lot of good info On This Site. Once on the site, in addition to that thread, you can search for stringer replacement or something similar and you'll get lots of great tips.
