Who's in charge of fuel filler placement?...X2

Just another dumb winter thread, but this one's been irking me for a while.
Who's idea was it to put the fuel filler on the port side on the 06 X2?
While it may keep one from having to make a lap around the gas station to fill the boat after filling the truck, it seems it will make it more difficult to fuel on the water.
I see the newer boats have dual fillers....cool, but not on the top ten mods to do to my boat.
Did MC hire a newby engineer from Correct Craft that didn't know MC's are LH rotation and infinetly easier to dock on the starboard side?

Plus I gotta pull around from the diesel pumps at the gas station to fill the boat anyway, so it really doesn't matter if the filler is on the starboard side!

Have to agree with you on this one, I poured over this boat (X2) before I ordered it and totally missed that the filler was on the port side. It was a real issue at first coming from the I/O world, but I am now pretty good at maneuvering the boat in either direction, just takes some practice. From what I can tell, makes no sense, but I am sure there is some kind of explaination for it.

My Correct Craft has its fuel fill on the starboard side (so much for that theory). I don't fill on the water and would actually prefer it if it were on the port side.

X2! I love having the fill on the port side. I am able to get 2 pumps going and fill up the truck and boat at the same time.

Speaking of full tanks...the idea of two fill caps is great. Anyway, picked up my boat this weekend and the previous owner said he always tore off a piece of paper towel and inserted it in the overflow when trailering. He then removed it at the lake as not to spill fuel down the hull on the trip. I did not see the need for this nor liked the idea of stuffing a paper towl in the hole where it didnt belong. So put my brand new cover on the boat and tow it home, 750mi. I now have a gas stain on my cover because the tank was full. I have already cleaned the hull. Paper towels are not a good idea, but someone has to have had this same issue and a better solution.

My thought is to get a piece of tubing and insert it an let it hang past the hull.

Sorry to step in on this thread but it is a gas question!

On my '96, I would do the paper towel trick, too. For some reason, that boat would puke up more fuel!

The only option I saw that I liked was the Lifeguard Fuel Air Separator from Racor. I never got around to installing it before I sold the boat, but this seems like a reasonable fix.

That Racor separator worked flawlessly on my '96. Good investment.
While we're at it, when you're filling the Prostar, wrap a couple paper towels under the filler nozzle to cach the overflow and when you get close to topping off, slow the pump down and listen carefully (you will get funny looks with your ear to the gas filler!). You can cut the pump when you hear the gas starting to back up in the filler hose, but it's still a 50/50 shot to not spill any. If you just leave the pump on until full, stand back or you'll get an unleaded shower!

Most of my fillups are at the gas station too, so port side fill is fine there, but that yearly trip to the Ozarks is goign to leave me trying to dock "backwards" and there aren't many moments down there when I don't have some drinkies in me!

Damn near every fuel dock I have ever been to has long hoses that would easily stretch across the boat.... jus' sayin', but I understand you are jus' complainin'!
