creamy tranny oil

Anybody had their tranny oil look creamy(milky) before? I've used penzoil in some of my vehicles before and had the same result. hopefully that's all it is.

Happy to say welcome to Team Talk, but sorry to tell you you have water in the fluid.

Trans cooler might be cracked allowing water to enter your trans.
I'd remove it and have it pressure tested, and for sure change your fluid.

you really need to give us a whole lot more details.

i have a 07 x2 and the wonderful "j" hose cooling line split in my boat at around 40 hrs. did not notice untill the bilge pumps were working overtime. come to find out the water got above the trans and water got into the system. dealer took care of it and was told they would warranty the tranny 3 more years.

Obviously, change the trans fluid before using the boat again.

The way I see it, the following things could be the problem:

1. Nothing. Water may have gotten in through an accident, like the bilge filling with water during a rain storm when battery was disconnected.

2. Cracked trans cooler. It is possible that there was some water in it when the boat was winterized, and the water froze and caused a crack. As noted by NJ, take it off and have it pressure checked.

3. Trans seal needs to be replaced. This is an occasional issue that has come up. Run a search for "transmission seal" and you'll have all the info you need.

4. There is a service bulletin about a faulty transmission breather vents. Maybe call your MC dealer and see if they are aware of it, and whether it applies to your boat.

It's a pretty simple transmission, most notably it doesn't have a torque converter, so the oil used isn't that important. Indmar/ZF Hurth used to recommend ATF, but in about 2001 they started getting complaints of rattling at idle so Indmar, with Hurth's blessing, switched to recommending 15W40 in their gear-reduction transmissions. I'm sure a wide variety of viscosities would work, but for convenience they picked the same stuff that goes in the engine.

Maristar-Man, your ATF looks like it has some water in it too.
