Electronic ignition conversion

Ok, I'm finally converting the points on my '88 PS 190 to the electronic ignition. The directions so far are great. My only question has to do with the weights and springs. They say not to change the springs unless they are broken, but then go on to give detailed instructions about how to remove, clean and replace the weights and springs.

Is there any risk in taking these out (and replace with existing, not new parts) just to clean out the junk and re-lube everything (as long as I keep all the parts in their same spot)? Any recos on what type of grease to use or not use?

Thanks,

Chuck
