Prop Change
I am trying to change my prop out and have it refurbed. I removed the cotter pin and nut, however there is this additional bolt/square rod that rest between the prop shaft and a notch in the inside housing on the prop. I have two spare props that have this same notch. How do I get this rod out as I am unable to remove the prop any further.

Jay that is the prop key. It shouldn't be in the way of removing the prop. Are you using a puller?

You need to use a prop puller. The key won't come out until the prop is off.

Prop pullimg method
a) Spray shaft (BACKSIDE of PROP) w/ PB blaster. Let it soak (WD 40 in a pinch)
b) Unscrew Prop nut 2-3 Turns c) Put prop puller on. You can wedge a 2 foot 2 x 4 between rudder and prop and strut so the prop will not turn d) If the prop does not pop off add some more PB blaster LET IT SIT OVERNIGHT w/ the PROP PULLER tight e) Next am Hit the back of the prop puller w/ a 2-3 LB hammer. It will come off Jim@BAWS PS Works everytime

If it still won't come off, heat the prop hub up with a hair dryer on high heat or a heat gun on low heat, rotating the prop to uniformly heat the hub, and when the hub of the prop expands, it will pop off.

If there's still a differentiation, go for the four blade puller since it will pull both 3 and 4 blade props.

What ever you do, don't take a hammer to the prop to try to get it off. No joke...people do it. Buy the proper tools and do it right. It will save you time and money in the long run.
