Mike I didn't put thread lock on any of my bolts. Mine had lock nuts on everything and they still felt like they were doing their job. I've never put loctite on spring bolts or u bolts.

I will say though, changing that spring was the easiest spring I've ever changed, didn't break or strip a single bolt, everything came off easy

Then I fabricated round 2 of fae, more conventional this time and I think it'll function great. Trying it out tomorrow! Attachment 101598
Spring must not have been an exact match. Not surprising. My MCOCD would have me changing the other spring as well.

Nice work on the FAE.

Lock-nuts are the norm for trailer suspension fasteners.

I plan on new springs and hardware in spring......the one time I would prefer a single axle trailer.

What size springs... I tried measuring mine jacked up - couldn't get a number to match what I can buy.

I think the spring I got was 27" center eye to center eye, 1&3/4 wide 4 leaf. I can get the part # for ya. My dad being a trailer parts guy had me one the next day. Maybe I can find a part# and brand

Thanks for the info. What did you use against the hull that would protect but not slip?

Got 3" or so clearance along the entire bunkboard, sprayed Starbrite on kitchen sponge (wearing latex gloves of course). Cleaned the entire bunk-hull area clean. Rinsed well.

Boat just rocked over on opposite bunk, still totally stable on trailer.

For the front I disconnected everything and jacked on keel. Boat sort of pivoted enough to get under front v carpet resting area.

Not terribly difficult.

I have MCOCD. Maybe not as much as some around here, but it is an affliction.

Now boat is taking its long winter nap, happy, warm and dry in my garage.
