Linseed and mineral spirits have never combusted spontaneously. Doesn't mean it can't. I just never thought of that. So thank you

If you are too tight going and retrieving your empty trailer will be interesting as the wheels would lock up real fast when driving around without the weight of the boat on the trailer. Wheel hop and lockup would be extremely easy on a light trailer.


Everyone here described how it should be done correctly. I just wanted to give a result incase you happened to have them too tight because you are so strong

I can't even believe that 5 clicks back from locked up would even be correct. That would burn those shoes up real fast and you would get lock up and possibly not be able to back up or extreme wheel hop when empty.

I agree with everyone else as well. Just to add a little (did not see it mentioned), 1st time out with boat on trailer, stop after a short distance (about a mile or so) and feel the hubs to make sure they are not heating up too much. I was able to tell that I had one side a little tighter than the other because one side was a little warmer than the other. Repeat the check again about about 5-10 miles just to be sure.

Thanks for the tips Kyle and Gone. I still feel good about my adjustment. Unfortunately I won't know for a while.

Our first outing in the spring should be interesting. I have touched so many things this winter so far. Fuel filters - possible leak/fire if not reinstalled properly. The trailer brakes as we have discussed. Many water hoses - could leak like mad and overheat. Spark plugs/wires - could misfire. Engine detailing - did I bump a wire loose? Fogging - lots of smoke on startup...

Probably worrying for nothing, but like I said, the first outing in the spring will be interesting.

I'm with you Kyle, on the 5 clicks back seems like not enough. Maybe they're big clicks. Seems like a weird way of doing it also, but... whatever works.

I usually go about it the other way. Tighten one or two clicks at a time until I hear something, then back it off one, maybe two. Again, whatever gets the same adjustment result.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, JDC. My wrenching days are mostly over, but I 1) needed to become familiar with the boat and winterizing was the perfect opportunity, and 2) none of the wrenching so far has been that difficult. I hope it stays that way...

They don't ignite in the can or on the brush, only the soaked rags if there in a pile.
