Worked on my 1995 205 - cleaned some crap out in the aft area of the bilge. Inspected starboard exhaust manifold and riser....checked alignment on prop shaft. it was ort iff a bit so I did a engine/prop shaft alignment. Also picked up some "Evaporust" to see if it really worked. It works...its slow but it seems to be working - starboard exhaust manifold and riser being treated will post after pictures...if it works on the manifolds and risers I will run it thru the block water jacket. Read on some old vintage car forums that it worked well.
Bilge now easily accessible for a little waxing... - Yeah I am a 10 when it comes to MCOCD. The orange on the riser is not rust - it's permatex copper rtv residue...PO (first owner) never changed riser gaskets so there some pitting..Was surprised how easy aligning a DD was....got it right...called it a night and grabbed a couple Blue moons... ![]()

Update on evaporust - works well - slow - but it's non corrosive. Picture 1 shows what internal of risers looked like before treatment. Orange on mating surface RTV Copper not rutst. Yellow solution turns black when complete - its the left over carbon from the iron/steel cast.
My best opinion on product is - it does what it says. It loosened up rust flakes and were easily rinsed away from water jacket in riser. Waiting to flush manifolds. Poured 2 gallons into block water jacket and fuel pump. Probably need about 3 - but at $25 a gallon I used up three already. I would say it on older boats it will give you an opportunity to look at (as best you can) condition of internals of castings and flush some loose rust. I plan on doing this every few years.

Started rebuilding the floor panel that is attached to dog house.
Repairable - all cleaned off... and first epoxy repair in corner... nice hole where hinge was attached...Not quite sure why MC used such little fasteners on this type of panel...read thru some of the threads... should be able to reinforce and re-install for about 40 bucks...

Mike,
Its only October and you have your 205 in pieces already. I am pacing myself, and have not torn anything apart, just cleaned, waxed and put in garage.

Started to replace a gas shock bracket for the doghouse on my '07 PS197 and quickly learned why it was missing when i bought the boat. Screw holes stripped out so cut away a small bit of the carpet and filled the holes and built up the surface with some JB Weld. I will give it 48 hrs to cure and then redrill holes and hope it holds. Thorough vacuum and some carpet cleaning. Put the license plate on my trailer with a nice frame and replaced all my trailer lights with LEDs. Re-did the ground to the trailer. Then some general cleaning of the interior, both skins and glass.

Compound, polished, and waxed the boat. The stern was suffering from some oxidation but came back real nice with a bit of work. The PO must have changed the lettering as you can see the shadowing from the old letters - is there really any way to get that out?
I may go at it again in the spring but I am pretty happy with the results. Also cleaned and put some 303 on the vinyl before putting her away for the winter. ![]() |
