Need Boat Cover and Hull ID # Help.

Bought a new cover for the boat online about a month ago. Cover arrives and the box says that it is for a 2003-2004 MC X2. Knew we had a problem because we ordered a cover for a 2005 MC X2. Tried it anyway and the cutouts for the tower mounts won't fit.

So, called Company X that we ordered it from to see what we needed to do about returning it and getting the cover we ordered. Company X is just the Middleman for Westland Industries who manufacture the Sunbrella and Sharkskin, etc covers. So, Company X calls Westland and they say the correct cover was sent and they will not return the one we have. Tried to tell them the differences between the 2004 and the 2005 X2 towers... you would think that they would know this stuff being in the marine cover industry. 3 weeks of phone calls and emails with no luck. Even gave them our boats Hull ID number so they could call MC. They told us that we don't even have a 2005 MC X2. They supposedly called MasterCraft and MC told them we had a 2005 MC Prostar 205v with no tower. And since we didn't order the correct cover for our boat they won't return it. I don't really know alot about Hull ID #'s, so how is that possible?

I am at loss at this point on what to do. Almost to the point to say screw it, sell the cover we have and buy another somewhere else. But, we bought and paid for something that was not delivered as advertised and promised. Anywhere we buy another cover from it will have to come through Westland Industries.

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Did you buy the cover with a credit card? File a dispute claim with your credit card company. You will need to send them any copies of reciepts from the transaction or emails that were sent. Your credit card company will go after them and 9 times out of 10 the credit card company will win on your behalf.

Good Luck

Thank you Anyg.

We did purchase with a credit card. But, we pay the credit card off every month so it is already paid for... can you dispute a charge if you have already paid off the purchase? Will call them to find out.

I'd do my best to make them make good of the deal. If you can't get any where or get tired of fighting with them, you could always take it to a good upholstery shop to fix it to fit your tower

You can dispute the charge if it's already paid for. If they side with you, which they most likely will. Visa will take the money back from them. Pretty slick

What about the Hull ID? Anyone know who I can call to verify the info they supposedly got from the number?

Not sure about the hull id #, but something smells fishy! Your hull is a prostar 205V, but they should have asked if a tower was put on. I'm not sure I believe their story? Plus, if you ask MC how many towers were put on your hull in 2005 vs how many didn't have towers, it's probably 9 to 1. In my conspiracy theory, they had a 2003-2004 cover lying around, they had no idea of the tower change and they are trying to cover their tracks.
