2002 key blanks/copying

Need a spare key for my 02 x-star. Dealer says they need to send the key off to have it made. Has anyone had any luck sourcing key blanks? It seems any locksmith could cut another key if he had the appropriate blank. Internet sources stock hundreds of blanks, even marine applications, but don't have mastercraft listed.

I had some spares made last year when I bought my boat at the local Ace Hardware. My boat a 2006 Maristar only came with one key. The guy just looked through the blanks until he found the right one. They spares don't have the plastic on the end, but work fine.

Home Depot did mine.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

A local locksmith can make you any kind of key you want.

The local Ace Hardware did my copies. They just don't have the plastic on the end, but are a perfect match.

Make sure to check really good through all the blanks. I had one guy tell me they didn't have the blank to match mine. So I started looking for myself to make sure until the manager came up and asked what I was doing. Showed him the key and he found the blanks in no time and made my keys.

My understanding is that MasterCraft only utilizes a small number of unique keys (at least with newer models). If you look closely at your key you'll probably see a letter etched into it that corresponds to your ignition. Your dealer could probably order you a new key from the factory if you know which one it is.

Disclaimer: I haven't had to test this theory yet, so someone may have been pulling my leg when they told me.
