Mooring whips?

Can someone give me some suggestions on brand names and sizes for mooring whips?
I currently have an 08 X45 and I have the Wake Watchers attached to my dock....but they are not handling the weight of the boat. They were fine for the Pro Air Nautique I previously owned....but the X45 overwhelms them under heavy waves.

Some 2" PVC works great and is super cheap. I'm serious. I've been using these home made whips for three years now and they keep my boat well away from the dock even in the heaviest of waves.

whips help

I have had whips for my mastercrafts for over 10 years. Granted I'm on a lake in the adirondack mountains of ny. They have kept my 88 tristar and currently my 2000 maristar scratch and nick free. I went with one of the mail order boat catalogues and sized them for my 19 ft tri-star. They have been working just as well for the 24 Maristar. The keys are how they mounted and how you treat them when they are not on the dock. Mine are bolted into an aluminum dock that has my friends boat on the other side with the same style whips. In this case they even out the loading on the dock when both boats are on the dock. They haven't given me any trouble, The lake is not that rough and we are in a protected bay but every once in a while we get the wind in the right direction and the chops hits the dock. No issues. One of my concerns is how do you know when they need to be replaced. Do they fail, catastophically splinter one day , just snap... and what effect does the sun have on them. Otherwise they have kept my boat off the dock and protected. well worth the investment

I have the ones from dockedge.com

Premium mooring whips
http://www.dockedge.com/products/doc...ps/premium.asp

They work great on my X-star.....

highly recommended and available at Bass Pro Shops or your local dock/marina store.

Our bay gets busy and they do a great job of handling the boat and keeping it easy on the dock too...

I have the monarch 8ft whips. We've had this set since 1990. They offer different sizes, and I was on their site recently, still the same offerings.
