Craigslist - '97 X Star in sad shape

No affiliation. Found this over morning coffee: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/boa/1125516465.html

Pretty sorry shape, but for $7500 OBO (that means $5K or less in my book), maybe somebody here will score a decent project.

Other than the fact that the X-Star didn't exist in '97, it's interesting. And a beater. Other than the fact that the gelcoat is rough, the prop is banged up, the pad over the gas tank is missing, interior is very rough and shows that it sat without being covered, the trailer is in bad shape and they want too much.

I agree, overpriced.

Hope someone has the fortitude to bring it back to life.

You're kidding about the prop, right?

If it was closer to where I am, I'd consider it if the price was right (it isn't). I'd like to see more detailed pics but as long as the hull is sound and most of the parts are there, it could be worth it. The motor needs work but just saying that it has a dead cylinder could mean anything from a bad gasket, broken ring, bent valve or something major like a hole in a piston. Either way, most things are repairable. If the cylinder is scored, it can be bored and sleeved, too. Just a matter of watching the costs and doing the major things first.

Actually Jim you are wrong. '97 was the first year for the X boat. That solid color scheme and graphics are the first generation X (which was just a 205 with the unique gel and graphics along with a tower).

I worked part time at a MC dealer, starting in early '97 and full time in Jan of '98 but don't remember seeing any X boats in the literature, on the banners, at the boat show or mentioned by anyone at the store, although we sold wakeboards and all kinds of other accessories. '99 was a big year for X-Star but as I said, I don't remember seeing anything about them before that. I don't remember anyone talking about them at MC training in March of '98, either.

Must have been a "Need To Know" deal, eh?
