x-7 vs x-14

I need some educated opinions. I’m just finishing my anesthesia residency in Florida and will be moving to Ft Sill Oklahoma. Fist off I’m wondering where people there ski?

Secondly now that I will actually have an income (no longer starving student) I get to buy my first ski boat. I like to slalom, and have just started skiing the coarse and can make it through with 15’ off. I have 4 kids (12, 7, 4, 4) who think it looks fun, but to hard to ski and all want to wake board. So the question is will I be disappointed with the x-14 wake. It makes since size/comfort wise for my family, and would probably make a better wake board boat. But lets be honest, I’m selfish. I first and foremost want a boat for me, my kids kind buy their own dang boat after they deny themselves of all worldly pleasure for 15yrs.

I haven’t skied behind either boat. Some help please.

Thanks.

From what I've heard the 214/X14 is a great ski boat, the wake almost exactly as good as a 197/X7, hopefully JohnE on here can chime in as he's had both boats. You may want to search around for threads regarding this comparison...

Why on earth are you moving to Fort Sill, OK? are you military? When I finished basic training I vowed never to get closer than 500 miles to that god foresaken place

There ain't nothing in Lawton, OK except toronados and skankey bar chicks looking for a way out.

Lake Ellsworth is a good sized lake. I was on it around 10 years ago, and we were back in a cove and had some pretty smooth water.

Doug's right. I've had a 197 w/ mini tower and now have an X14. IMO, the only reason to choose a 197/ X7 over a 214/ X14 would be price. Or else because you are skiing 38 off or better. The 214 wake is nearly identical to the 197 at longer line lengths and is arguably better at 15 or 22 off. I brought this up last year. The second I stepped in a 214 I knew it was the boat for me. 2-3 times the room that the 197 has. At least it feels that way. We had 8 adults and 2 kids in my 214 one weekend last year and it was fine. A little tight, but we did it. Forget about that in a 197.

Good luck with the choice.

Interior layout, size, and handling is why we opted out of a X14....

Thanks for all the info. I also searched old posts. My ego tells me I need a dedicated ski boat because some day I'll be able to run those 30'+ off runs and I don't what the tower screwing with me. But reality tells me that is still a few years away, and until then the x-14 sounds like the ticket.

Layout and size I'll spot you. Handling isn't much different. The 197 is a rocking slalom tug.

Go 214 with no tower or mini tower and you can ski to 43 off no problem.........at least no problem with the tow....
