'07 response lxi vs '04 Prostar 197

A buddy of mine just purchased an '07 response lxi from a guy in Dallas. The response is 2 inches wider and a foot longer with a Monsoon engine and a 3 blade prop. My Prostar has an MCX and a four blade prop. What are the feelings out there of the pros and cons of these 2 boats? It's certainly going to be great to have both boats. My buddy loves my Mastercraft but mostly went with Malibu so we would have 2 different boats. My buddy and I obviously have likes and dislikes of both. What's the feelings out there?

Both boats are excellent ski boats from what I have heard. Although I am no expert, I skiied behind the BU last year and it was very nice. The interior is larger than the 197 as well but I will say I like the lines of the 197 better.

You should have a blast skiing on both of them. Enjoy!

What andyg said. I am not a Malibu fan what so ever. MasterCraft is a far superior rig than the Malibus and the resale for MasterCrafts should be much better due to its durability of materials used in it boats. jmpo

Andy, that was a great review, why you get scared and delete it?? wooosy .

Ive owned both and both have there pros and cons. For private lake slalom skiing only the 197 would be my choice behind the sn 196. If I frequented public lakes with friends and family the response has a much better layout.

the cons i encountered with the bu were:

-side windshiled too high which makes it hard to talk to your skier.
-engine and exhaust too loud
-trim tab on rudder would come loose all the time making the boat track like crap.
-carpet is crap

cons on the mc 197:

-open bow is to small to really be usefull
-must run above 1/4 tank to avoid fuel pump failure
-needs weight on passenger to compensate for the driver

cons on both boats would be the 22' off bump. the rlxi was a bit harder.
otherwise they both make great ski boats and i don't think either one will make or break you.

keep in mind this is my experience behind an 04 197 and 05 rlxi. the new one rlxi is much different.

After I posted it I thought about the forum rules and I didn't think it was appropriate for me to be comparing a Malibu to a MC even if overall I like the MC better.

How about the differences in the prop? Response 3-blade Prostar 4-blade Better hole shot? I'm guessing the Response has more top end? I'm not a wakboarder but his Response has the wedge.
