My firebox has cracked! Anyone else and how easy was the warranty?

I'm on my third one, you can use furnace cement to "glue" it back together but if it's broken in a couple of pieces just keep using it as long as it still supports the fire ring and grill.
You should be able to get a new firebox from the place you bought it, if not BGE will replace it you'll be on the hook for shipping $30-40 last time I got one. The new ones have a slit cut into at the lower vent opening, I guess for thermal expansion |

Smoked some baby back ribs following the recipe in the BGE owner's manual last weekend. Delicious!

Dealer ordered me a new one for mine no questions asked. That was a year ago and I have yet to pick it up....they did call and tell me it was in. Maybe I will look into it today.

I think most of the BGE knock-offs cook pretty similarly.
As far as longevity, that remains to be seen for most of them. IMO - BGE's last just about forever, you'll use it all the time, don't take any chances to save ~$100 and get the real thing!

I have the XL. The warranty has been incredible. Set the temperature and walk away for 8 hrs. I think that Costco was selling them (real BGE, not a decoy) for a little bit, price was less than most dealers cost.

amazon sells these things... free shipping if you have a prime account. For the size of them, seems like a good deal.

How do you get these things hot?
Got the Green Egg lump, which generally seems to be the best.
I use the Green Egg firestarters to get it going. After the lump gets burning, I close the lid, open the bottom vent all the way, and open the cast iron vent on top all the way. And let it burn. A few times, I've had the temp in the 800 range, and even pegged. But when I actually try to get a high temp like that it seems I can't. I could only get it up to 500 when I made a pizza a few days ago. 500 is adequate, but I was hoping to get up to the 600-700 range. I'm thinking the only variable is lump quality. I put on a new Rutland gasket a few months ago and it's still good. Any tips? I think I remember somebody mentioning a fan blower attachment thing that blows on the coals to increase heat...
