Direct Drive Or V Drive

I am looking for a new boat and i need to know the difference between a direct drive and v drive. My wife likes the v drive because of the room in the boat but is it going to have to big of a wake if i want to do serious sking behind it.

The V-Drive is going to throw a bigger wake, no question.
However, on rough water it's probably going to ride better.

What two boats are you looking at?

JMHO.

2001 X 9 or a 2001 tige 21 foot riders addition. it is hard for me to say that since i have always been an mc owner. I am leaning toward the X 9.

The X1 has the best all around hull in the industry. The wakes are great for wakeboarding and skiing at 35 mph they are relitively flat. The X9, for a direct drive throws a larger wake then most d drives. V drives are great because of the storage and seating however if you are serious about skiing then I would go with a d drive of some sort. The X1 hull started out as the original X-star from 2000-2003 I believe and the the X-Star was made into the pickle fork. The original X-Star hull became the X2 and then in 2006 the X2 was made into a pickle fork and the X1 was created. They did make a direct drive X-star, I believe that was in 1999. But they also made d drive ProStar 205s which is the same hull as the original X-Star/X2/X1.

Hope this helped!

It is a no brainer. If wife likes V drive that is it. "If mama ain't happy, nobodys' happy!"
(of course you could live with"I told you so" the resy of your life.)

I've always looked at the V-Drive as more wakeboard than slalom. Bigger wake, more room. Carves the corners more than just turns flat like a DD.

The DD will give you less bow rise on take off, better maneuverability, better slalom wake.

Nothing wrong with a V-Drive. It's all about what works for you. I don't know about where you are, but around here you can demo any boat you want. Up in Kelowna, BC if you phone a dealer they will come right to your campsite and take you for a ski.

IMO the X14 has a few design flaws, but has the best ski wake, X9 great handling boat w/ more leg/feet room, I haven't had much experience with V Drives so I can't comment on that.
