Skylon Pylon Troubles??

I have a two piece skylon wakeboard pole on my 85 S&S and have been having trouble with the top half spinning around, it happens during normal driving without pulling anyone and with towing. I dont know if I can drill through the pole without comprimising the strength of the pole. I have tried really clamping down on the ratchet that attaches to the front but dont want to over do it. How hard should I be ratcheting that down? And is anyone else experiencing troubles or knows how the fix the top half of the pole from rotating? Thanks!

I get it pretty tight. There is no reason it should be turning. I have the Skylon with the single cable coming out that stretches to the front of the boat, so it may be a little different from yours.
