Ballast pump impeller change
I recently checked my impellers for wear and tear and wanted to show how it was done with pics as that always helps me. This was on an 07 X2.
First locate the rear ballast pumps in the rear cargo areas behind the back wall carpet. Three screws hold in the back wall panel. ![]() Once the wall panel is removed you will have access to pumps. ![]() Remove impeller and replace with a new yellow if needed. They only go on one way so no worries. One thing to note is make sure the paddlewheels angle in the same direction counterclockwise all the way around it as the impeller is intentionally bigger then the space you are putting it into. ![]() Mine was ok but this is it installed. ![]() Last edited by Roonie's; 07-15-2008 at 12:44 PM. |

The port and ballast pumps are located behind the cargo walls. The KGB pump is located under rear seat under the black plastic piece. Lift that up and you will be looking at the transmission and pump is located on the left. This pump is turned upside down from the other two and is harder to get to the impeller. Easy as that. If replacing with new I would get new rubber seals if possible as well.
New yellow impellers run around $26.00. Last edited by Roonie's; 07-08-2008 at 06:09 PM. |

Nice job Roonie.
This board needs to sticky posts like these. These are just as good if not better than an instruction manual.

Just to add a comment, if those impellers were a new install spray them with binding lube or soapy water solution so they don't start-up dry.
I also recommend replacing with the new green ones.......they work better for me than the yellow ones, esp for the KGB tank.

Great post. Thanks!
I agree with the new green ones. Used to have problems with tanks losing water during a pull and the KGB filling on its own while docked. All those problems went away with the new green impellers. |

How are most guys installing their actual ballast pumps? Impeller facing up or impeller facing down? |

02 x9 ballast issues
thanks for the post, i recently did the same on my x9 and found the pumps and impellers to be in working condition. however, when i'm on the lake, water pumps in for a few seconds and then starts blowing air. i am quick to turn them off, but not sure what the problem is, any suggestions.

Another thanks for the post!! My new green impellers are just begging for an install. Thread is definitely sticky worthy.
