Flares

Does anybody know if you have to have flares in your boat in Florida?

If you are not going off shore you do not need them.

No flares for me, most lakes I go to you can just drift around until you reach shore! Or swim.

I'm personally not real big on swimming long distances in lakes down here, you just never know what might be sitting on the bottom below you

Its funny, on our lake in Northern WI people get mad when you use the horn on your boat even in an emergency.

For example last summer, I was sitting on the dock just hanging out watching this one boater seemingly just float in the middle of the lake. He was walking around the boat alot, and didn't appear to be in any distress, but after about 10 minutes he started to lay on the horn! One of the older gentleman across the way from our house stood at the top of the stars and just yelled for the guy to stop making all of the racket! Didn't offer any help just wanted him to, "shut the hell up!" I then proceeded to go out and give the guy a tow in to his dock.

Looking back on it to this day still makes me laugh! I never liked that "old" guy. He always complains about going to close to his house when he ski! Never happy!

Anybody else have any good breakdown stories?
