Strange Happinings

Just wondering if you guys have ever heard of a similar situation. Today I was out riding with 5 of my friends. When I went to pull one of my buddies out of the water, I heard a loud "Pop Pop" coming from the floor. You could feel it also. It was like someone was underneith the center walkway pounding up on the floor. I shook floor pretty hard. I had no clue what the heck it could be. I pulled the rider up and he rode no problem. When the next rider went to ride the same thing happened. Now I was getting a little worried, so i stopped to check things out and noticed some strange stuff.

First, The windshield would no longer close correctly. The top of the windshield was about an inch further away from the frame when closed than where it should be. Also, the center door now barely fits into the slot when it is shut. And the amps on the sidewall underneath the compartment fell of the sidewall. Anyone have a clue what could have caused all of this to happen? I am a little worried because the noise and shaking was pretty strong. There is no mechanical devices that I know of that far forward. I am wondering if the top hull may have cracked. Any help would be appreciated.

Take back to dealer, if things are starting to move around with the structure of the boat that can't be good.

Doesn't sound good.

First thing I'd do is start climbing around in the bilge look carefully at engine and transmission mounting. Then I'd pull the thing out of the water and look at the running gear, check to make sure the strut is solid, shaft not bent etc. Look for cracks in the hull, look at the rub rail for signs of separation etc

The change in windshield and walk-through door are worrisome and in most boats indicative of a major hull event, especially when it happens acutely, and accompanied by loud noises. I'd get my dealer involved early in this process, because this has the potential to be a big deal, and unless you hit something, could be a significant warranty hassle (assuming you're the original owner, or that you transferred the warranty if you bought it used).

Sounds like you hit something submerged underwater, like a rock, stump or piling and hit the bottom of the boat and did some damage somewhere, get it to the dealer for inspection ASAP!

sorry guys,

It is an 06 X-star that was bought new in April of 07. So, it is just over a year old. I am sure I did not hit anything. Our lake was just dredged not too long ago and is mud bottom. I looked over the bottom of the boat while it was on the trailer and it looks fine. I wasn't moving too fast when the noises happened and it was only when the boat was under load. The thumps felt like they were right under my feet. As far as I know there are no moving parts that far forward. All of the mechanical parts (V-drive unit, shafts, motor, etc.) are further back. I will double check the engine compartment to ensure all is good there, but I did not notice anything out of place when I looked. Is it possible for the top hull to crack or flex without affecting the bottom hull. Or in other words, can the top show signs of flex (as in the windshield) and the bottom look fine and show no signs? I really appreciate everyones help. I love Mastercrafts and hope that I can get this fixed. I live about 4 hrs from my dealer. They are hosting the PWT next weekend so who knows if they can even take a look at it if I take it in for a few weeks.....I am sure they will be busy prepping for the tourney. This maybe a good excuse to take it up there, drop it off, and watch the pros ride! Thanks again for everyones help....

You sound like a doctor or something.
