Engine hours

Need some honest input.......I know there are many variables that go into it, I have the 351W in my 83 S/S. How many hours have y'all seen on these motors before they self-destruct....mine has a bunch....but it seems to run strong. `Just trying to get an idea of what others have or have seen with these engines. Thanks.

Not over the top, but I sold my 88 several years ago with 1000+ hrs on it, and I would bet that it is still running just as strong now. My 01 is getting near 900 now and (knock on wood) still pulling hard, and frequently!

General feedback here for you. It depends on so many different variances that you'll probably not get a straight answer here. Generally I've read that generally between 1500 and 2000 hours you can expect to have to rebuild or replace the engine. I'm sure there are folks on this board that will prove that theory wrong.

Doubt you'll see a motor self destruct in most cases. Would lose some compression and so on over time.......

iam an auto tech, but have done my share of boat work over the years, and I totally agree with 92 190 PS. my best advice is do your oil changes every 50 hours and 2000 hours will be fine.

it all depends how well the engine is maintained and winterised and if its getting full throttle most of the time !! general rule of thumb would be the 2000 hours mark , i have 1100 hours on my 93 prostar 351 and its running perfect and i hope that she is only half way through life ...
